Orthocare Innovations Foundation
Limb Restoration Institute (LRI)
O&P research has enjoyed a resurgence in focus, attention and funding over the past six years in response to the U.S. military presence in Iraq and Afghanistan. Federal investment in O&P research, however, is reaching a critical tipping point. The interest and momentum that the field has recently enjoyed will not be sustained without a comprehensive federal agenda and the necessary external organizational support to advance such priorities.
To address this need, the Foundation will establish an organizational framework to coordinate efforts in the field to:
- Enhance federal investment in patient-centered O&P research;
- Improve effectiveness of sponsored research by fostering translation of research results into clinical applications;
- Equip the private sector to participate effectively with academia in competitive research and technology transfer.
- Orthocare Innovations Foundation will also develop the only domestic, fully-integrated O&P research, development, technology transfer and clinical research entity. The Institute would serve as a unique, national model for integrated research, development and technology commercialization with a user-centered, solution-driven focus. The Institute will also foster collaborative research and development, and the successful translation of new technologies into commercial applications to address the needs of persons with amputations and mobility impairments.
Without a focused, coordinated effort, the missed opportunities to improve the quality of patient care in this sector will be dramatic.
